About Manuel de la Cerra

Mr. de la Cerra has worked as an attorney at major law firms known for their specialty in intellectual property, including Lyon & Lyon, LLP and Paul Hasting Janofsky & Walker, LLP, both in San Diego. He also has in-house experience, heading the intellectual property litigation section of a $1.4 Billion electronics corporation, Kyocera Wireless Corporation in San Diego. Mr. de la Cerra has also worked as general counsel for a start-up charged with developing and enforcing an intellectual property portfolio. Since 2005, he has worked as a sole practitioner helping several start-ups and established companies alike, in intellectual property procurement, strategy and assertion.

Mr. de la Cerra earned three engineering degrees in addition to his law degree. He graduated in 1993 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering. There he was recognized on the Dean’s List, and graduated fourth in his class in three years at the age of 20. He then attended the University of Southern California Law School on a full scholarship, graduating in 1996 as the youngest in his class. In 1997, Mr. de la Cerra graduated from Stanford University with a M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, attending Stanford on a full tuition fellowship. Then in 2003, while working full-time, Mr. de la Cerra earned his master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California at San Diego.
